Portrait of Mitsooz Founding Artist Ruth Wall. A Dallas-based painter specializing in contemporary lyrical watercolor and abstract realism. Her practice is defined by a balance between graphic precision and spiritual serenity.

The Origin - Artists Journey

Ruth’s journey is a masterclass in creative resilience. Long before claiming her space at the easel, she spent over two decades speaking the language of graphic and print design.

The definitive turning point in her practice arrived later in life. Following a season of personal upheaval, she enrolled as an older student at the University of Texas at Dallas. It was in those long, intense drawing sessions that she learned to dig deeper for expression.

Those sessions marked a radical shift in her practice. She made the bold decision to leave corporate design behind and live art fully: applying everything she had learned about creative business to her own easel.

Today, her studio practice is proof that artists remain expansive as long as they maintain a sense of play. She invites the intentional collector to witness the evolution of a maker who refused to believe she missed the boat, choosing instead to build her own.

"Watercolor is an unforgiving partner, yet it is through that lack of control that I find the most spiritual and colorful expressions of life."

The Resonance.

The resonance of Ruth’s practice is a quiet companion for your daily life. Her son, a designer himself, describes her Work as spiritual: and that is exactly the vibration she aims for.

Encountering her Work is intended to be an experience of profound serenity. Through her use of vibrant, intentional color, she triggers a sense of calm that is deeply accessible to both seasoned and newer collectors.

The intended experience is one of pure connection. Her Work is an invitation to slow down and sit with a painting, accepting it as a gentle presence that adds depth to your home.

The Intention.

Ruth invites you to reconsider the value of beauty in contemporary art. While some spaces have pushed beauty to the sidelines, her primary intention is to reclaim it as a vehicle for profound human connection.

She is not aiming to replicate what she sees, nor is she attempting to paint pure abstraction. Instead, she seeks a middle ground: an intention to build a bridge for the collector to connect with something greater than themselves.

Every Narrative she builds is a deliberate act of sharing peace. She aims to create a visual sanctuary where people who desire true connection can find an anchor.

The Process.

You are invited to witness the method of a designer at the sculpture bench of the paper. Ruth’s process is defined by how she plans and crops her Work before the first wash of paint is applied.

She treats her compositions like a site of visual editing. She simplifies her ideas, frequently cropping the object and leaving out excessive detail to allow certain shapes and spaces to appear naturally.

It is a slow, steady process of balancing color and creating light. By planning the structure first, she creates a safe container for the chaotic, unpredictable flow of the watercolor to follow.

The Details.

The Technical Bio.

Ruth Wall invites you into a practice defined by the intersection of graphic precision and the translucent depth of watercolor. Based in Dallas, Texas, and a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, her focused discipline is Contemporary Lyrical Watercolor.

Drawing from a twenty-year vocation in corporate design, she utilizes a "designer's eye" to simplify natural forms into vibrant, emotive Narratives. Her Work is a study in serenity: bridging the gap between intentional structure and a profound spiritual resonance.

The Craft & Materiality.

The craft behind Ruth’s Work is a testament to mastering the unforgiving. She works exclusively in watercolor because the medium is notoriously unpredictable: offering a satisfaction that can only be found in doing it well.

Unlike mediums that can be covered up or corrected, watercolor demands total presence. Ruth manages the interaction between pigment and paper with a master-level control of light, medium, and dark spaces.

By choosing to leave the hand visible within the washes of color, she ensures the materiality of her Work reflects the exact substance we champion at Mitsooz: the raw honesty of the creative process.

The Artist's Secret (Unseen Fact).

Ruth Wall invites us into the hidden structure of her visual language: she was first a published haiku poet. In her early twenties, she learned to handle creative rejection by submitting haiku to scholarly university journals.

This background in the economy of words is the secret driver behind her practice today. She paints exactly how she wrote: stripping away the noise until only the most potent, simplified truth remains on the paper.

It is this history of poetic discipline that makes her Work feel so spacious and considered. Her paintings are where the calculated restraint of the poet and the fluid soul of the watercolorist meet.
