An Original Striated Ink Drawing
The Discovery of a Solitary Moment.
My work is an investigation of the area where things cannot be explained rationally, yet fit within the logic of the painting and seem to be known. In "Found Alone," Charles Buckley presents a haunting figurative study of isolation and remembrance. The silhouette of the figure is defined by what is absent: the stark, undrawn white of the paper that generates a sense of internal light and vulnerability. This original striated drawing operates on the belief that forgetting is a necessary component of remembering. From a distance, the eye bridges the gaps between the hand-drawn ink lines to create a clear narrative of a person standing in thought. However, as the collector approaches, the figure fractures into a rhythmic, unstable vibration of black ink.
The Mechanics of Perception.
Based in Brooklyn and exhibiting with the Susan Eley Gallery, Buckley utilizes a meticulous application of horizontal ink lines to mimic the visual language of CRT television sets. This method creates a sense of movement and instability that mirrors the way memories shift and grow hazy over time.
