The Narrative.

Lots of Impossibilities
An Original Striated Ink Drawing

The Suspension of Memory.
There is a profound area where things cannot be explained rationally, yet they fit within the logic of the page and seem to be known. In "Lots of Impossibilities," Charles Buckley captures the ultimate state of transition: a figure caught in mid-air, frozen between the takeoff and the landing. The title suggests the paradox of memory: we try to hold onto a moment that is, by its very nature, fleeting and impossible to grasp in full. This original striated drawing operates on the belief that forgetting is a necessary component of remembering. From a distance, the eye bridges the gaps between the hand-drawn ink lines to create a clear narrative of a diver in flight. However, as the collector approaches the work, that clarity fractures into a stark, rhythmic vibration of ink and negative space.

The Mechanics of Perception.
Based in Brooklyn and exhibiting with the Susan Eley Gallery, Buckley utilizes a meticulous application of horizontal acrylic ink lines to mimic the visual language of CRT television sets. This "analog digitalism" allows the image to feel like a transmission from the past, echoing the way our minds edit and crop specific moments of high intensity. In "Lots of Impossibilities," the undrawn space is what gives the figure its light and its weightlessness, requiring the viewer to fill in the missing emotional information of the fall. This 19x19 framed drawing is a rigorous mnemonic investigation: a permanent record of the gaps that define our personal history and the impossible moments we try to keep.
