The Narrative.

Holding On, Letting Go
An Original Oil and Cold Wax Painting

A Visual Balance of Persistence and Surrender.
The most compelling moments in abstraction occur when structure meets the unknown. In Holding On, Letting Go, Kari Bell investigates the delicate negotiation between fixed intention and material discovery. The composition is built through a luminous immersion of cerulean and deep indigo, punctuated by sudden excavations that reveal layers of soft lavender and lime green. Thread-like gestural lines move across the surface like a rhythmic map of the subconscious, representing the choice to preserve specific marks while releasing others. This Work is designed with a rare structural equilibrium, offering the collector a Multi-Directional Display that remains balanced regardless of the angle, allowing it to adapt to the unique architecture of your home.

Technical Mastery and the Found Image.
Drawing from her background as a university professor and department chair, Bell’s practice is defined by a rigorous intellectual depth. In Holding On, Letting Go, she moves beyond the structured language of the academy to a practice of unearthing the image within the material. Utilizing a rich combination of oil and cold wax on cradled panel, she uses palette knives to scratch and scrape the surface: revealing a visual record of the painting’s evolution. This 24x24 masterpiece is a record of material response: an archival bridge between the intellectual depth of a scholar and the intuitive soul of a contemporary master. It is a visual sanctuary designed to add a persistent presence of clarity and stability to the intentional home.
